Caution icy roads

Another cautionary tale from the Alps. Last week it was chalet girls messing around on piste cannon covers. This week, driving on snowy roads.
On a trip to Meribel last Monday Dave(Ski Cocktail), Sam(Ski Cocktail), Jimbo(Jump), Maz(Ski cocktail), Amy(SDS) had a coming together with the ski bus just outside 1550. They took a gamble, using snow tyres in very icy changeable conditions, which didnít pay off. Lucky they came away fairly unscathed with only minor whiplash injures and a slight case of the brown trouser syndrome. The car ,on the other hand came off far worse losing one of its corners and had to be abondoned by the side of the road.
I donít want to sound like a broken record but when thereís snow on the road itís better to be safe and and use studded snow tyres or put on snow chains than be sorry and crash your car. In case you are in any doubt just go and have a look on the fore-courts of both the garages in 1850 you can see many results of English & French cars that have been driven like dodgem cars.
Coming from someone who drives the most impractical car for the alps (high speed & rear wheel drive) I can only recommend a good set of chains. At the moment I have a pair of Rud Centrax chains that attach to one of the wheel nuts of the car and can be put on and taken off in minutes without the need to crawl under the car.
As an afterthought if Mr Rud does ever read this glowing praise/advertisement for his products then please send my complimentary chains to the following address....
