Serious Stuff

Now we get serious for a second. At the beginning of this week I saw a letter from Meribel about an incident that happened there. To summarise the letter, it was about some chalet staff who, after a drunken night out took one of the large orange padded protected covers off one of the snow canons and decided to use it sledge down from Motteret to Meribel. If you have ever skied this run you will know that it isn't very steep or riddled with bumps, but it does run adjacent to a stream in a gorge. And it was into this gorge/stream that these chalet staff fell.
One of the girls broke her pelvis in three places and the total cost of rescuing them is in the high 5-figure sum (that's English money). It is doubtful whether their insurance will cover the cost.
So guys donít go following in Meribel footstep, leave the orange pads where they are and donít appear as a statistic on Courchevel bloodwagon list.
