Ed (Jump) came up to me on Sunday and asked me whether I had 1300 francs and was free tomorrow morning. The answer to both was yes and before you could say ìTandem freefall skydivingî I had signed up for 5 minutes of the most adrenaline packed exhilarating thrill this winter season. On Monday morning we headed up towards the Altiport were we got harnessed up and packed into the plane. With a total of 10 people in the plane, 3 instructors 3 cameramen 3 of us and the pilot it gave a whole new meaning to the word cattle class. After a very short take off we spiral climbed to 12000 feet where we levelled off. With
Courchevel a mere dot far below us the door where opened and my fellow passengers started to departed the plane. Being the last out I watching them hurtle ground wards only to realise that moments later I would be following them. As the camera man climbed out the door I sat over the edge ,crossed my arms and put my fate in my instructors hands. The sensation of falling through the clear blue skies at terminal velocity with the deafening noise of the air rushing past me is something I have never experience before, surprisingly very little went through my mind. But as with all goods things after 35 seconds the parachute was deployed and the defending sound was replaced by virtual silence as we glided slowly towards Le Praz.
To anyone who is thinking of doing this all I can say is beg borrow or steal* because it is so worth it.
