Some final notes from the injured editor

I know I've always considered myself a trend setter but this is ridiculous. Ever since I broke my leg there has been a steady stream of punters and seasonnaires ending up in the doctors reception areas. Obviously after seeing my handsomely graphitised leg cast and my dextrous use of crutches everyone has been falling over themselves to join the cripple wagon.
Unfortunately by Wednesday I will be just one of the crowd again when the doctors finally cuts it off, the cast that is not my leg. Darling you know a broken leg is just so last monthÖ
All in all my injury, compared to Nic's, has been fairly painless and the only inconvenience has been the painful insertion of a hypodermic into my stomach. With only 4 days left my spare tyre is looking rather black a blue from being daily spiked.
I thought I would have one last dig of the French healthcare system. Now generally compared to my experience of the good old NHS my trip down to Moutiers was like coming into the 21 century. No leeches and hot pokers.
My only criticism is the in resort service. Considering most visits to Dr Blanc and Dr Pepin concern broken bones or torn ligaments it's strange where their surgeries are located in relation to the pharmacy. Both are quite a distance with plenty of obstacles in between.
12 years ago when I broke the ball joint in my shoulder after being diagnosed, and despite being in pain, I was then given a prescription and told to fill it out at the pharmacy and return with the various slings and pain killers. After carefully traversing the busy Croisette I returned unscathed. A month ago after being diagnosed with a broken leg, albeit only a broken fibular, I was asked if I could make it to the pharmacy to pick up the plaster, bandages and paracetamol. Even though I came into the surgery with a pair of crutches the rest of resort still had a good covering of snow and ice it made me think the request was slightly sadistic in a sort of krypton factor meets the crystal maze meets endurance way. Unless he was trying to break the other one at the same time. Luckily I had Jen(Ski Higher), my 'wife', in reception who ran the errand on my behalf. Anyway it made me thing why one (or both) of the doctors aren't located right next to the pharmacy. That way no trips would be required. But that would too easy wouldnít it.
