Sharples freeride success - Courchevel Enquirer
The Inaugural Pat Sharples Invitational Charity freeride was held on Good Friday to raise money for the British Ski Club for the Disabled.
Pat Sharples, twice captain of the English Freestyle team and England's number one freeride and extreme skier invited 30 of Courchevel's seasonnaire skiers and snowboards to complete for prizes and glory in freestyle of the telepheric couloir.
A strong crowd of spectators watched in awe as the competitors aimed for exemplary style and line, which brought the Easter holidaymakers on the Saulier to standstill.
None of the competitors encountered and bad luck on Friday the 13th and in brilliant sunshine the winners were as follows
Womens Snowboard: Nola
Womens Ski: Clair
Men Snowboard: Matt Sharpels
Mens ski: Ali Rainbeck
Ali Rainbeck kindly donated his first prize of Salomon Pilot skis to be auctioned raising a further 3300ff for the Club.
The event, which will become an annual fixture, raised 8000ff for the club and was sponsered by Oakley, Whitestuff, Red Eye, Da Kine and Salomon.
The BSCD assists disabled skiers & snowboarders to holiday in the alps and provides ski guides. During the season three events in Courchevel have raised one tenth of all annual contributions in the UK.
Pat commented on the success of the day 'I am thrilled at the way everyone got involved with the charity - the skiing was brilliant and great fun was had by all'
